Nvidia RTX 5090: The Beast of the Next Generation

If you’re a hardcore gamer, a professional content creator, or just a tech enthusiast, you’ve probably heard of the Nvidia RTX 5090, the rumored next-gen flagship graphics card from the green team. This beast is said to be nearly twice as fast as the RTX 4090, the current king of the hill in terms of performance¹. But how much do we really know about this monster, and when can we expect to see it in action? Let’s take a look at some of the leaks and rumors that have been circulating online, and see what we can learn from them.

The Specs: A Feast for the Eyes

The RTX 5090 is expected to be based on Nvidia’s Blackwell architecture, the successor to Lovelace². This means that it will likely feature some major improvements in terms of efficiency, ray tracing, and AI capabilities. But what about the raw numbers? Well, according to a post by a known leaker on the Chiphell forums³, the RTX 5090 might sport some mind-blowing specs, such as:

  • 192 streaming multiprocessors (SMs), a 50% increase over the RTX 4090’s 128
  • 24,576 CUDA cores, a 50% increase over the RTX 4090’s 16,384
  • 192 ray tracing cores, a 50% increase over the RTX 4090’s 128
  • 768 tensor cores, a 50% increase over the RTX 4090’s 512
  • A memory bandwidth of 1,532 GB/s, a 52% increase over the RTX 4090’s 1,008 GB/s
  • An L2 cache of 128 MB, a 78% increase over the RTX 4090’s 72 MB
  • A boost clock of 2.9 GHz, a 15% increase over the RTX 4090’s 2.52 GHz

These numbers are insane, and if they are true, they would make the RTX 5090 a true beast of a card. But how would it translate to real-world performance? Well, according to the same leaker, the RTX 5090 could be about 70% faster than the RTX 4090 in games and applications³. That means that it could easily handle any game at any resolution with maxed-out settings and ray tracing enabled. It could also be a dream come true for content creators who need to render high-quality videos and animations in record time.

The Release Date: A Long Wait

Of course, all these specs and performance figures are just rumors at this point, and they could change drastically before the card is officially announced. But when can we expect that to happen? Well, unfortunately, it seems that we might have to wait a while before we can get our hands on this beast.

Nvidia usually follows an 18- to 24-month release cycle for its graphics cards², and with the global chip shortage still affecting supply and demand⁴, we don’t expect to see any delays that push things back from this schedule. That means that the earliest we could see the RTX 5090 would be late 2024 or early 2025², though it could be as late as mid-2025.

That’s a long time to wait for such an amazing card, but it might be worth it in the end. After all, Nvidia has proven time and time again that they can deliver cutting-edge technology and innovation with their GPUs. And if the rumors are true, the RTX 5090 could be their most impressive product yet.

I hope you’re as excited as I am for the RTX 5090, the beast of the next generation.
