Logitech’s MX Master 4 Special Edition Is Packed With Coder Easter Eggs, and It Costs the Same as the Regular One

Logitech took its best productivity mouse, covered it in code jokes, and didn’t charge extra for it.

The MX Master 4 Special Edition is listed on Logitech’s US store at $119.99 in a color Logitech simply calls “Developer.” That’s the same price Logitech lists for the regular MX Master 4. When we checked on November 3, the page showed it in stock and ready to ship. Logitech’s own description calls it the “MX Master 4 Developer Edition” and a “celebration of the architects of logic and builders of the future.”

Decoding the easter eggs

The shell mixes light gray, a dark charcoal palm rest and lime-green accents, with etched circuit traces and code syntax all over it. Logitech’s product FAQ explains three of the hidden references:

  • 0xFF + 1: World Programmers’ Day. 0xFF is 255 in hexadecimal, so adding 1 gives 256, and Programmers’ Day falls on the 256th day of the year.
  • 09.17: the Linux kernel release date. Linus Torvalds released Linux 0.01 on September 17, 1991.
  • !04.01: World Backup Day. In code, “!” means “not,” so this reads “not April 1,” which points to March 31, the day before April Fools’.

There’s more. The thumb rest reads (“Hello, World!”), the classic first program in almost every coding tutorial. The right button carries a “Special Edition” label styled as a code comment, and Logitech’s FAQ also lists markup tags (</>) and syntax annotations (//) on a matte body.

Same mouse underneath

This is a looks-only edition. Logitech’s FAQ says there are no feature differences from the standard MX Master 4. You get the same:

  • Haptic Sense Panel under your thumb, with feedback you can customize in Logi Options+
  • Actions Ring shortcut button
  • MagSpeed scroll wheel, rated up to 1,000 lines per second
  • 8K DPI sensor for tracking on most surfaces

Logitech also says it carries the standard warranty.

It won’t stick around

Logitech calls this a limited drop. Asked in its own FAQ whether it will restock, the company says it’s “available only while supplies last.” It went up for pre-order in late October, and Logitech said shipping would start October 30. We didn’t find the Special Edition on Amazon US. If you just want the mouse without the theme, the standard MX Master 4 in Graphite is on Amazon.

What we could and couldn’t confirm

The price, stock status, feature list, warranty note, limited-drop wording and easter-egg meanings come from Logitech’s US product page, checked November 3, 2026. The explanations of 256, Linux 0.01 and “not April 1” are ours. Prices are in US dollars and can change. Some early coverage, including HotHardware, reported $129.99, but Logitech’s US store shows $119.99. Logitech hasn’t said how many units it made, so we can’t say how long stock will last.

PCGeek’s take

Special editions usually cost more. This one doesn’t, which makes it an easy pick if you were already buying an MX Master 4. The jokes are subtle too: you’ll get them if you write code, and nobody else will notice. Just don’t expect anything new inside. If you already own an MX Master 4, there’s no performance reason to buy this one. It’s a collector’s piece and a nice gift for the developer in your life.

Would you pick the Developer edition over the regular colors, or is the plain Graphite more your style? Tell us in the comments.
