We Found an RTX 5080 at RTX 5090 Money—and an RTX 5090 Asking $9,399
The RTX 5080 has entered RTX 5090 money. The RTX 5090 has entered a different universe—at least in some marketplace listings.
Our October 30, 2026 US price check found a PNY RTX 5080 at $1,999.99, sold by Best Buy. That is roughly what NVIDIA originally asked for its flagship RTX 5090. A separate MSI RTX 5090 listing on Newegg showed $9,399.99 from third-party seller Noltura LLC.
Those are specific advertised offers, not completed sales, market averages or proof that every card costs this much. But the contrast explains why another GPU upgrade can feel so hard to justify.
The price check: launch promises versus today’s offers
| Desktop GPU | NVIDIA launch starting price | Offer checked October 30 | Seller and context |
|---|---|---|---|
| RTX 5080 | $999 | $1,999.99 | PNY Triple Fan OC, 16GB; sold by Best Buy; Add to cart available |
| RTX 5090 | $1,999 | $9,399.99 | MSI Ventus 3X OC, 32GB; sold and shipped by Noltura LLC through Newegg; Add to cart available |
NVIDIA announced the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 for January 30, 2025, starting at $1,999 and $999 respectively. Its specifications distinguish the flagship’s 32GB of GDDR7 from the RTX 5080’s 16GB. Those original prices remain a useful reference point, but an announcement is not a guarantee of available stock at that price today. Source: NVIDIA’s launch announcement.
The RTX 5080 example is about double its starting price
The PNY Triple Fan OC listing identifies model VCG508016TFXPB1-O, SKU 6616903, with Best Buy as the seller. The observed $1,999.99 price is about 100% above NVIDIA’s $999 starting launch price.
That does not establish that this exact PNY model doubled over two months. It establishes the gap between a verified current partner-card offer and the GPU family’s original starting price. Different coolers, factory settings and seller channels complicate direct comparisons.
The RTX 5090 warning: read the seller line
The MSI Ventus offer we checked was not sold directly by Newegg. Its seller and shipper were Noltura LLC. At $9,399.99, the asking price is about 4.7 times NVIDIA’s original $1,999 starting point.
An available checkout button does not tell us whether buyers are paying that amount or how many units are available. Nor does one seller’s offer establish NVIDIA’s official pricing. Search results can also mix refurbished cards, complete PCs and multiple sellers; compare the same product condition and purchase channel before drawing conclusions.
What about that viral $1,200-to-$2,200 claim?
The Josh Walrath post supplied to PCGeek describes a sharp RTX 5080 price increase and frustration with the market. We treated it as a lead, then checked actual product pages. We have not independently reconstructed a consistent two-month price history for the same model, seller and condition, so we are not presenting that specific increase—or the comparison with past mining booms—as a verified market-wide statistic.
PCGeek’s take: buy the workload, not the panic
Before paying a premium, identify what your current card cannot do. Check independent benchmarks for your games, resolution and creative applications. Compare the entire upgrade cost, including any power-supply or case changes, against other cards and complete systems. Confirm the seller, return policy and warranty eligibility.
A frightening listing is a reason to compare more carefully, not a deadline to buy. We are not calling the top or promising that prices will fall. We are showing the offers we could verify and the limits of what they prove.
